It was built in the third century BCE and reshaped in Roman times, probably under Hadrian or Trajan, when the brick structure that still stands took over; it is one of the largest ancient theatres in Sicily, about 107 meters across, with room for some ten thousand spectators. In the third century CE the Romans turned the orchestra into an arena for spectacles. Today the cavea still hosts concerts and the Taormina Film Festival in summer, which is a fine use for a place made for an audience.Pianifica la visita
