Negroamaro in the inland Salento

Deep soils and a landscape of vines and olives surround Salice Salentino.

Negroamaro is the principal grape of Salice Salentino’s unnamed red and rosé styles. The denomination takes its name from the town north of Lecce, in a countryside of vineyards, olive groves and masserie. Deep clay-rich soils are common in this inland part of Salento. Other named grape styles also belong to the wider denomination.

Negroamaro is a style-specific rule

The ordinary red and rosé styles require at least 75% Negroamaro. Styles naming Negroamaro require at least 90%; the ordinary white wine instead requires at least 70% Chardonnay.

Between Lecce and Brindisi

The zone includes all of Salice Salentino, Veglie, Guagnano, San Pancrazio Salentino and Sandonaci, plus defined parts of Campi Salentina and Cellino San Marco.
