Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto Classico Superiore is the still style from the denomination’s delimited historic area.
The still Classico wine has a more closely delimited home within the Bolognese hills.
Grechetto Gentile, locally known as Alionzina, is the principal grape of Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto Classico. The Classico designation belongs to the still Superiore wine. Its wider hill landscape is cut by river and stream valleys, with sandstone, marl and clay formations. The terrain’s different slopes and valley corridors create a bright, ventilated vineyard setting.
Classico accompanies Superiore and requires at least 95% Grechetto Gentile. The denomination’s other styles have an 85% minimum; that lower threshold does not apply to this Classico wine.
The zone includes all of Monte San Pietro and defined parts of Sasso Marconi, Casalecchio di Reno, Zola Predosa and Valsamoggia in Bologna province, plus part of Savignano sul Panaro in Modena province.
