Prosecco DOC includes still, frizzante, sparkling, and sparkling rosé wines from its defined northeastern Italian area.

Glera is the principal grape of Prosecco DOC. Its territory includes plains and hills, with predominantly alluvial clay and silt soils. The Alps shelter the area to the north, while the Adriatic influences winds and rainfall from the south. The name gathers several wine styles across this broad northeastern Italian setting; the rosé style also uses Pinot Nero vinified as red wine.
For the sparkling rosé, the specification requires 85–90% Glera and 10–15% Pinot Nero vinified as red wine. The white styles have a different list of permitted supplementary grapes.
The grape zone comprises Belluno, Gorizia, Padua, Pordenone, Treviso, Trieste, Udine, Venice and Vicenza provinces.
