Albana beside the Spungone ridge

A pale geological ridge links several of Romagna’s vineyard hills.

Albana is the principal grape of Romagna Albana. Its favored territory follows the Spungone, a ridge of fossil-rich sandy limestone set among clay hills from the Faenza area towards Cesena. The surrounding vineyard ground varies in clay, silt, sand and limestone content. Many traditional Albana vineyards occupy well-lit slopes facing between southeast and southwest.

The delimited Romagna area

The grape zone comprises whole or specified parts of municipalities in the provinces of Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Bologna, according to the detailed production boundary.
