Lambrusco covers more than one named grape: Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC permits Sorbara, Salamino and other Lambrusco varieties.

Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC makes the distinction visible: its vineyard blend requires at least 60% Lambrusco di Sorbara and allows Lambrusco Salamino up to 40%, with other Lambruscos limited to 15%. The denomination covers both frizzante and spumante wines. Reading Sorbara alongside Lambrusco therefore reveals more than the broad family name alone.
The Sorbara production area is in the province of Modena. It includes all of Bastiglia, Bomporto, Nonantola, Ravarino and San Prospero, together with delimited portions of neighboring municipalities. These boundaries apply to Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC.
