At least 95% Vermentino

Vermentino through the Gallura label

One Sardinian denomination gives the grape several wine forms.

Vermentino di Gallura DOCG requires at least 95% Vermentino in its vineyard base. Its specification recognizes Superiore, frizzante, spumante, passito and late-harvest wines. Those additional words help identify the bottle: the common grape and geographic name can belong to separately defined styles, rather than one uniform kind of wine.

The Gallura example

The Vermentino di Gallura grape area is defined by a list of whole municipalities in Sardinia, including Tempio Pausania, Olbia, Monti and Viddalba. This is the delimited area of the named wine; it gives a concrete Sardinian setting for exploring Vermentino.
