Marl, sandstone and the Slovenian border

Collio’s hillside vineyards follow the northern edge of Gorizia province.

Collio is a wine landscape of linked hills, with marl and sandstone among its defining rock formations. The denomination includes both white and red wines, as blends or with named grape varieties. A bottle labeled Friulano, Ribolla Gialla or Merlot takes you down a particular branch of this shared geography. The longer name, Collio Goriziano, refers to the same denomination.

Between the Isonzo and Judrio

The delimited zone occupies the northern hill belt of Gorizia province, between the Isonzo to the east, the Judrio to the west and the Slovenian border to the north.
