From the Ionian coast to the hills

Cirò’s wine country reaches inland from Calabria’s Ionian shore, with Gaglioppo and Greco bianco at the heart of its vineyard tradition.

Around Cirò and Cirò Marina, vineyards belong to a landscape that runs from the Ionian coast toward the first slopes of the Sila. Inland from the shore, terraces west of Punta Alice give way to rolling hills.

Gaglioppo and Greco bianco are the area’s most representative traditional grapes. Local growers have carried vineyard training and pruning practices from one generation to the next while modernizing work in the vineyards and cellars. Wine remains a central part of this corner of Calabria’s rural economy.
