A vineyard name and a changing blend

Antinori’s historical account traces the decisions behind Tignanello.

The wine began as Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneto Tignanello with the 1970 vintage. In 1971 it took the name Tignanello as a Tuscan table wine; white grapes were eliminated with the 1975 vintage. The producer’s account makes these changes part of the wine’s history, while its 2022 technical sheet classifies that vintage as Toscana IGT.

An Italian wine setting

According to Antinori, Tignanello is made exclusively from its namesake vineyard at Tenuta Tignanello. The historical account describes a southwest-facing site of 77 hectares at 350–400 meters above sea level, on calcareous ground with tuff elements.
