Glera across the Prosecco territory

Prosecco DOC gives the grape a broad northeastern Italian wine role.

Glera is the principal grape of Prosecco DOC, across a territory of plains and hills in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Much of the ground is alluvial, with clay and silt textures. The Alpine barrier and Adriatic winds contribute to the regional climate. In the rosé style, Glera is joined by Pinot Nero vinified as red wine.

The rosé grape rule

For Prosecco DOC spumante rosé, the vineyard composition is 85–90% Glera and 10–15% Pinot Nero vinified as a red wine. These are vineyard rules; the specification also regulates supplementary wine used in sparkling production.

The Prosecco DOC example

The denomination’s grape area comprises nine provinces: Belluno, Gorizia, Padua, Pordenone, Treviso, Trieste, Udine, Venice and Vicenza.
