Malvasia on Rome’s volcanic hills
Frascati’s white wines belong to the northern slopes of the Alban Hills.
Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Malvasia del Lazio or both lead Frascati’s grape base. The vineyards occupy the northern slopes and foothills of the Alban Hills, where volcanic formations helped create the soils. Frascati DOC also includes a spumante style. The name places these wines in a delimited landscape near Rome, rather than describing every white wine made in Lazio.
