Cortese at the meeting of plain and hills
Gavi is an Italian denomination made entirely from the grape.
Cortese provides the whole grape base of Gavi, also named Cortese di Gavi. The territory lies in southeastern Piedmont, where the plain meets the Apennine side of the region. Red soils, alternating marl and sandstone, and white clay-rich marl give different vineyard settings. Gavi includes still and sparkling styles, offering more than one expression of Cortese in this area.
