Asti DOCG covers Moscato-led wines, including white and rosé sparkling styles and Moscato d’Asti.
Sandstone and marl underlie the vineyards of the Asti denomination.
Moscato Bianco is the principal grape of Asti’s white wine styles, while Brachetto joins it in the rosé styles. The territory reaches across Langhe-Roero and Monferrato. Sandstone-rich ground in the western area gives way to more compact marl formations farther east. The denomination brings its different wine styles together through this shared Piedmont hill landscape.
The white styles require at least 97% Moscato Bianco. Rosé sparkling styles use 70–90% Moscato Bianco and 10–30% Brachetto.
The grape area covers the municipalities and specified fractions listed in Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo provinces. It extends beyond the city and province of Asti.
